INTER AGENCY GROUP OF DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATIONS (IAGDO) The Agency for Rural Transformation Ltd. (ART) is a founder member of the umbrella grouping of indigenous, development NGOs in Grenada, the Inter Agency Group of Development Organisations (IAGDO) created in 1988 with the objective of facilitating a collaborative and united approach to national development issues. There are seven members of the IAGDO. IAGDO is in turn affiliated to the regional network organization, the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in Barbados.
Hosting of Secretariat. Between April 2000 and December 2004, ART hosted the Secretariat of the IAGDO and assumed the chairmanship of the organization through its Secretary-General, Ms. Sandra Ferguson. Besides co-ordinating the regular bi-monthly meetings of the IAGDO, the Secretariat co-ordinated a number of Public Fora to facilitate public discussion and education on matters of national interest and concern.
PUBLIC FORA Among the public fora organized by the Secretariat were:
Labour Relations in Grenada , held in collaboration with the Conference of Churches, Grenada Conflict – its nature, causes and consequences, held in collaboration with the Conference of Churches, Grenada Disability: Prevention and Early Intervention, held in collaboration with the Grenada National Council of the Disabled to mark May Month of Awareness, Engineers Registration Act, held in collaboration with Grenada Institute of Professional Engineers Education Bill, held in collaboration with the Grenada Trade Union Council Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association: Its History, Role and the Challenges posed by Globalization and Trade Liberalization. This public forum was the IAGDO’s contribution to public education and debate in light of the ongoing GCNA – W & W spices Ltd. conflict. The audience heard presentations on the history and role of the GCNA and the threats and challenges and threats imposed by globalization and trade liberalization to traditional farmers’ organizations. This forum was supported by the Caribbean Policy Development Centre and Mr. Chris Sinckler, Executive Co-ordinator, was one of the panellists.
