| The 2009 Gender Sensitive Policy-Making Workshop was held in Grenada from Monday August 24th -Wednesday August 26th. This workshop has been an annual event since 2003. It is sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Jamaica, in collaboration with the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in Barbados. The workshop particularly targets women in the OECS. This year, it focused on“Gender, Trade and the Economy”. It comprised three days of intensive, but challenging and interactive exercises and discussions on a range of issues, with the main focus being “Gender and the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)". The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Cecilia Babb, Executive Coordinator, CPDC and Ms. Judith Wedderburn, Director, FES Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean. Administrative support was also provided to the workshop by ART. The participants, who were representatives from countries in the OECS, including those from Grenada, were guided on writing a gender-sensitive policy statement around trade issues associated with the EPA. The gender analysis of selected Caribbean economies was used as the basis for the discussion on the EPA, and provided guidance as to how a gender-sensitive policy approach could be used to shape programmes or projects from which CARICOM countries can benefit. |
